Logging camp, summer respite, and waypoint to adventure

The Dillonwood area hosts the charred remains of a logging camp and waypoint to Mt. Whitney and silver mines. It also hosts a the remains of a grove of giant sequoias that was once the the largest privately owned stand. Although within an easy day trip of Three Rivers, Dillonwood is the least visited area of Sequoia National Park that is accessible by road. A high-clearance vehicle is necessary to traverse the severely rutted, narrow access road, then it’s several more miles of hiking once the locked entrance gate is reached.
